Eighteen cities are included in this service area, including the City of Austin, the 11th largest city in the U.S. Part of that commitment is ensuring patients remain secure during all phases of EMS care regardless of their age or size” said Chief of EMS, Ernesto Rodriguez, Austin-Travis County EMS”Īustin-Travis County EMS serves over 1,100 square miles, including all of Travis County and parts of Williamson and Hays Counties. “We are committed to the highest level of safety for our patients, medics and our community. The testing has many elements, including dynamic testing and component testing.LAKE SUCCESS, NY - Quantum EMS, is pleased to announce that Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services has purchased 70 Ambulance Child Restraint Systems (ACRs) for their fleet, allowing for the safe effective restraint of all Pediatric Patients that they transport from 11-99 pounds. ACR CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEMS PLUS
The Plus Test has been developed in a collaboration between VTI, NTF (National Society for Road Safety), Folksam, SIS (Swedish Standards Institute), Volvo, and representatives of CRS manufacturers. A child restraint system that has passed the Plus Test gives the child a little extra safety and reduces the risk that the child traveling in it exposes to life-threatening high neck forces in a frontal collision. We also measure the forces that the child's neck exposes to in a frontal collision. In a Plus Test, the speed increases to 56 km/h, and the stopping distance is reduced by about 100 mm. Plus Test is a voluntary supplementary test to the E-approval and is ordered by the CRS manufacturers, who want to demonstrate qualities in addition to those included in mandatory ECE Regulation 44 or ECE Regulation 129.

E-approval is mandatory for all child restraint systems. The approval will be valid in all countries that have accepted the regulations. In Sweden, the Swedish Transport Agency issues the E-approval after testing at VTI. ECE stands for Economic Commission for Europe. Testing and E-approvalĮ-approval is European, and such mandatory testing and approval are governed by ECE Regulation 44 and ECE Regulation 129. All to give the child extra safety in traffic.
ACR CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEMS UPDATE
In connection with the update and entry into ECE Regulation 129, in the autumn of 2022, VTI's Plus Test will also undergo a renewal. In the test, a side impact test and several advanced measurements in the crash dummy have been added. New for ECE Regulation 129 is, among other things, that the length of the child determines which child restraint system (CRS) should be used in harmony with the recommended maximum weight. This means that the ECE Regulation 44 is being phased out. To meet today's development regarding road safety, ECE Regulation 129 was created. The standard ECE Regulation 44, which VTI previously performed testing according to, has existed since 1974. In 20, VTI will make a major investment in the forms of a new brake system, new test rig, and new crash dummies to be able to offer testing by ECE Regulation 129. Since then, VTI has actively participated in the development of testing and crash safety for children in vehicles.

VTI's involvement in the design of testing and its methods started in the 1960s.
